Came cruising in over the Rockies on a glorious clear evening. This is one beautiful city. Have wonderful accommodations. After Beyoncé, dinner, a couple of beers, and a shower, it’s time for this old prof to relax a little.

I don’t know how to get pics from my Canon to this iPad so I’ll have to add a photo I took today later.

So if we had infinite chances to become perfect would we? I think perfection is best left to the flowers …

Up early to attend a meeting. When I drove up over the big hill, I was met with a most expansive and majestic sunrise. It justified the meeting

Ah, January is done. have never been a fan of January, but this one has been all right.

Pork roasts don’t require cumin.

Sometimes young people just don’t think.

Sometimes older people just don’t think.

Sometimes people don’t think …

… but they always feel.

Damn it. Missed another day. Probably for the best.

I was thinking earlier about emotional pain. And about how each time someone you love hurts you intentionally, you love them a little less. A little less each time … until the love is gone.

Whether we’re ready or not … change comes …
On campus this afternoon, it was 87 degrees. Arrived home … it was 66.

Change comes. It’s more exciting when we’re not ready.

There is light in Faith; Fear resides in darkness.

To navigate change, we should grasp onto Faith with both our hands, which means we should let go of Fear.

Rush to the car. Rush to the store. Rush to unload. Rush to pre-heat. Rush to organize. Rush to perform minor surgery. Rush to clean (and remove evidence of minor surgery). Rush to prep. Rush to oven … and then calm. No more rushing. Not today anyway …

Roast chicken, cornbread dressing, pan gravy, simple salad, gentle conversation with a wise, old lady.

And a renowned chef told me the chicken looked “professional.” That’s a bonus.

Jack’s in January

The sparrows are building

The pear trees are budding

Just got to wait for the bluebonnets to bloom

There’s warmth in a smile

Warmth in a glass

Warmth in the bright afternoon

Can’t tell you how long

I’ve been feeling all wrong

Held down by a wave of gray light

I’ve tossed off that line

Found a new dime

A full moon lit up the dark night

Jack's in January

I skipped a day … didn’t post a picture yesterday. It happens. I had several opportunities and did see one gorgeous sunset over San Antone, but I was more interested in living than in capturing any one moment in time.

Yesterday was pretty amazing. So much good conversation; such good feelings.

Today hasn’t been too bad either.

Geraniums

I used to have such a disdain for naps … used to. Now they’re an occasional indulgence that can qickly repair the damage done by early mornings and restless nights.

Playful group of familiar Rackers. Knowing I’ll be able to sleep in tomorrow morning. A beautiful Indian Summer afternoon and evening. Homemade tacos. Cold American shit beer. Yeah, I’m pretty content right now.
